Vard, società del gruppo Fincantieri fra le principali al mondo per la progettazione e costruzione di navi speciali, ha firmato un importante contratto per il design e la realizzazione di una sofisticata unità per la società P/F Akraberg del gruppo Framherji, leader tra i più innovativi nel campo dell’itticoltura attivo nelle isole Farøe.
La costruzione dello scafo avverrà presso il cantiere rumeno del gruppo a Braila, mentre l’allestimento finale e la consegna dell’unità, prevista nel primo semestre del 2022, avverranno nel cantiere norvegese di Brattvaag.
Il contratto, del valore di circa 50 milioni di euro, si inquadra nella strategia di diversificazione implementata da Vard nel corso degli ultimi anni a fronte della crisi del settore Oil & Gas. In questo contesto Vard sta finalizzando un altro importante contratto che segnerà l’ingresso della società in un nuovo e promettente segmento di mercato.
L’unità per Akraberg sarà la prima operativa nelle isole Faroe il cui design è stato progettato interamente da Vard, sarà lunga 84 metri, larga 16,7 metri e ospiterà a bordo 25 persone in cabine singole.
Già in passato, gli stabilimenti norvegesi del gruppo hanno realizzato numerose unità similari per gli armatori di queste isole, considerati a quel tempo altamente innovativi e che hanno contribuito così ad un considerevole generale progresso tecnico per l’intero settore.
Il progetto della nuova nave, sviluppato da Vard in stretta collaborazione con la società armatrice Framherji, è basato su un modello di nuova generazione che recepisce le più recenti e avanzate tecnologie in tema di efficienza e di protezione ambientale dei mari, dei pesci e delle persone.
La nave sarà inoltre equipaggiata con le più avanzate e sofisticate tecnologie ecologiche per consentire il minimo impatto possibile sulla qualità delle operazioni di pesca e con un’attenzione particolare alle operazioni sostenibili.
Per garantire l’alta qualità del pesce, infatti, tutto il pescato verrà trasformato direttamente a bordo, imballato e conservato in congelatori o frigoriferi grazie anche all’utilizzo della biomassa.
A bordo l’unità sarà dotata di un acquario vivo per mantenere il pesce sano e fresco fino alla trasformazione, di un’avanzata fabbrica di lavorazione del pesce, e di un’alta capacità di carico per il pesce refrigerato e congelato.
Il sistema di propulsione sarà ibrido, diesel-meccanico e diesel-elettrico, comprese le batterie e consentirà operazioni senza fumo all’ancora, nei porti e nelle aree sensibili sotto il profilo ambientale.

Trieste, April 01, 2020 – Vard, Fincantieri’s subsidiary and one of the major global designers and shipbuilders of specialized vessels, signed an important contract for the design and construction of a sophisticated unit for the company P/F Akraberg, part of the Framherji group, one of the leading and most innovative fishing companies in the Faroe Islands.
The hull of the vessel will be built at the Romanian yard of the Group in Braila, while the final outfitting and the delivery of the unit, scheduled in the first quarter of 2022, will be carried out by the Norwegian yard of Brattvaag.
The contract, worth about 50 million euros, falls within Vard’s diversification strategy put in place over the past few years, following the downturn of Oil&Gas market. In this context, Vard is finalizing another important contract, which will mark its entry in a new and promising market segment.
The unit for Akraberg will be the first operating in the Faroe Islands whose project has been fully designed by Vard. It will be 84 meters long with a beam of 16.7 meters, with accommodation arranged for 25 people in single cabins on board. The Norwegian shipyards of the Group have in the past built many similar vessels for the ship owners of these islands, and they were considered highly innovative at the time, thus contributing to a significant general progress of the entire industry.
The project of the new ship, developed by Vard in close cooperation with Framherji, is based on a new-generation model which implements the latest and most advanced technologies in terms of efficiency and environmentally-friendly protection of the seas, fish and people.
Furthermore, the ship will be equipped with the most advanced and sophisticated green solutions to ensure the lowest possible impact on the quality of fishing operations and with particular attention to sustainable operations. To secure high quality of the fish, all the catch will be directly processed onboard, packed and stored in freezers or refrigerators also thanks to the use of the biomass. The trawler will be equipped with a live fish tank to keep the fish healthy and fresh until processing, an advanced fish processing factory and high cargo capacity for refrigerated and frozen fish.
The propulsion system will be hybrid combining both diesel-mechanical and diesel-electric propulsion, including batteries, allowing smokeless operation at anchor, in ports and in environmentally sensitive areas.
