Vard, fra le prime società al mondo nella realizzazione di navi speciali, progetterà una nave per la riparazione dei cavi per la società francese Orange Marine, leader nelle telecomunicazioni sottomarine, che ha scelto il progetto della controllata di Fincantieri.
La nave verrà costruita da Colombo Dockyard, il maggiore gruppo navalmeccanico dello Sri Lanka, sulla base del design 9 03 di Vard. Le referenze offerte dalle due società sono state determinanti per l’acquisizione dell’ordine. Il cantiere Vard di Brattvaag, infatti, nel 2014 ha consegnato la nave di supporto offshore “Pierre de Fermat” proprio a Orange Marine, realizzata sul design 9 01, un’unità all’avanguardia sotto i profili della sostenibilità ambientale e dell’equipaggiamento.
Nel 2019 Colombo invece ha costruito per la giapponese Kokusai Cable Ship la posacavi KDDI Cable Infinity, anch’essa basata sulla medesima piattaforma di Vard.
Il design 9 03 per Orange Marine è stato appositamente messo a punto per la manutenzione di cavi sottomarini, sia in fibra ottica che quelli utilizzati nei parchi eolici offshore. Vard ha sviluppato il design della nave in base alle esigenze operative del cliente, con particolare attenzione allo scafo, in termini di capacità di tenuta al mare, manovrabilità e basso consumo di carburante.
Il portafoglio di Vard di unità per la posa e la riparazione di cavi elettrici e di telecomunicazione è in continua espansione, permette alla società di sviluppare un patrimonio di competenze ed esperienze interne specifiche, anche grazie alla collaborazione con rinomate aziende del settore, e di posizionarsi come uno dei progettisti navali più esperti per unità di questo tipo.
Attualmente la società sta realizzando 2 posacavi, il progetto 9 04 per Prysmian e quella relativa al contratto firmato di recente per Van Oord.
Vard confirms its leadership in the specialized vessels segment: Fincantieri subsidiary once more selected by Orange Marine. Trieste, February 18, 2021 – Vard, one of the major global shipbuilders of specialized vessels, will design a cable repair vessel for the French company Orange Marine, leader in undersea telecommunications, which has selected the Fincantieri subsidiary project.
The vessel will be built at the Colombo Dockyard, Sri Lanka’s largest shipbuildng group, based on the Vard 9 03 design. The references provided by the two companies were key to the acquisition of the order. Thus, the Vard Brattvaag shipyard has already delivered in 2014 the offshore support vessel “Pierre de Fermat” to Orange Marine, based on the 9 01 design, a state-of-the-art unit in terms of environmental sustainability and equipment. On the other hand, in 2019 Colombo has built the cable-laying vessel “KDDI Cable Infinity” for the Japanese company Kokusai Cable Ship, also based on the same Vard platform.
The 9 03 design for Orange Marine has been specially designed for the maintenance of submarine cables, both fibre-optic telecommunication cables and power cables used in offshore windfarms. Vard has developed the vessel design according to the clients operating requirements with special attention to the vessel hull design in terms of good sea-keeping capabilities, maneuverability, and low fuel consumption.
Vard is continuously expanding its portfolio for power and telecom cable laying and repair vessels, developing in-house competence and experience within this segment, working with significant companies in the industry, and positioning itself as one of the most experienced ship designers of such kind of vessels.
Currently, the company has two cable laying vessels under construction, the 9 04 project for Prysmian, and the one related to the recently signed contract for Van Oord.
