Dal 26 settembre, la Galerie du 19M celebra un secolo di eccezionale maestria nel ricamo e nella tessitura. Fondata nel 1924, Lesage ha svolto un ruolo importante nella storia dell’alta moda e della moda lavorando anche per clienti molto prestigiosi del mondo della decorazione.
LESAGE: 100 ANNI DI MODA E DECORAZIONE
La mostra “Lesage, 100 anni di moda e decorazione” vuole appunto celebrare il secolo di eccellenza e innovazione di questa casa di ricamo e tessitura e per farlo presenterà anche nuove forme artistiche nate dalla fusione del ricamo con altri media, nonché ulteriori collaborazioni con creatori contemporanei nei campi della moda, delle arti visive, della decorazione, del design spaziale e degli oggetti. In mostra pezzi di artigianato artistico realizzati per maison di alta moda che si distinguono per virtuosismo tecnico e fascino delle forme. Una panoramica istruttiva e dettagliata delle tecniche, dei gesti e delle fasi del processo creativo immergeranno totalmente i visitatori nel patrimonio e nell’eccellenza di questa casa.
L’ESPOSIZIONE: QUANTO DI PIÙ IMMERSIVO POSSIBILE
Per mostrare ciò che rappresenta Lesage, ci si avvarrà della scenografia e delle installazioni immersive, quali le capsule sonore e video, che saranno di ausilio ai visitatori nella scoperta della storia della casa, offrendo loro la possibilità di uno sguardo dietro le quinte dei laboratori. Questi ultimi sono fondamentali nella resa degli omaggi al lavoro degli artigiani, alla forza del dialogo creativo tra Lesage e i suoi clienti più prestigiosi e alla ricchezza del suo patrimonio.

La Galerie du 19M celebrates the centenary of the Lesage embroidery house; Exhibition “Lesage, 100 years of fashion and decoration: 26 September 2024 – 5 January 2025 – From 26 September, la Galerie du 19M celebrates a century of exceptional embroidery and weaving expertise. Founded in 1924, this embroidery and weaving house has played a major role in the history of haute couture and fashion. It has also worked with the most prestigious clients in the world of decoration. The exhibition “Lesage, 100 years of fashion and decoration” celebrates the one hundred years of excellence and innovation of this embroidery and weaving house. It also features new artistic forms that have arisen from the merging of embroidery with other media, as well as new collaborations with contemporary creators in the fields of fashion, visual arts, decoration, and spatial and object design, among others.
THE EXHIBITION
The exhibition features pieces of artistic craftsmanship created for haute couture houses that are exceptional in their technical virtuosity and the allure of their shapes. An instructive and detailed overview of the techniques, gestures, and steps in the creative process immerses visitors fully in the heritage and excellence of this house. To show what Lesage is all about, the set design and immersive installations (e.g. sound capsules and videos) will also help visitors discover the house’s history and give them a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the workshops. These pay tribute to the work of its artisans, the power of the creative dialogue between Lesage and its most prestigious clients, and the wealth of its heritage.
MURMURATION: THE COLLABORATIVE WORKSHOP WITH ARISTIDE
On the occasion of Maison Lesage’s first 100 years, its artistic director Hubert Barrère and the embroidery workshop have collaborated with the artist Aristide Barraud in creating Murmuration, a monumental design depicting a murmuration of hundreds of embroidered starlings. Each year we witness starlings performing perfectly synchronised ballets in the sky as they migrate from one continent to another. Composed of hundreds of starlings embroidered by thousands of hands on several layers of organza, Murmuration looks at this natural phenomenon of an exceptional collective symbiosis at a time of an increasingly fragmented society. The different embroidered layers that make up Murmuration will travel from one city to another throughout 2024. At each stop, free workshops to teach people about embroidery are being offered to all audiences. Each embroidered stitch becomes yet one more note in this collective, contemplative symphony conducted by the expert hands of Lesage’s artistic artisans. After travelling to Marseilles, Paris, Dakar, and, lastly, Venice, Murmuration will return to la Galerie du 19M Paris/Aubervilliers.
THE CULTURAL PROGRAMMING
La Galerie du 19M’s lively programming furthers its focus on emerging creative scenes. At the same time, la Galerie remains firmly committed to an initiation by gesture, celebrating transmission and sharing, paying special attention to its youngest visitors. In resonance with this exhibition, several participative and performance activities that reflect all the creative dimensions of the Lesage workshops will be proposed to all kinds of audiences. Visitors will be able to discover and learn embroidery and weaving techniques in hands-on workshops that embody the tradition of transmission so near and dear to Maison Lesage.
LE 19M IS CELEBRATING MAISON LESAGE THROUGOUHT THIS YEAR
To mark this anniversary, le19M is organising an extensive series of events throughout the year from Marseilles to Venice and from Toulon to Dakar. They showcase the talent and creativity of Maison Lesage’s textile embroiderers, designers, and creators, from France to India, and from fashion to decoration. They recount this past century and foretell the one to come.
ABOUT MAISON LESAGE
Founded in 1924 by Albert and Marie-Louise Lesage, the Lesage workshops and their embroidery craftsmen and women have been working with Haute Couture from the outset. Embroidery and, since the 1990s, tweed, are the two areas of specialization of this house of excellence which preserves its expertise. The Maison Lesage is showcasing its heritage by building up the largest collection of embroidery samples in the world.
