Il corso è stato frequentato da studenti provenienti da diverse Stati membri e partner della NATO, che hanno contribuito a creare un ambiente di apprendimento dinamico e interattivo. APPROFONDIMENTI SULE ULTIME TENDENZE
Inoltre, la partecipazione di istruttori di alto livello, appartenenti al comprato italiano della Difesa, dell’industria e della NATO, tra i quali spiccavano il Centro di simulazione e validazione dell’Esercito italiano (CESIVA), il NATO Joint Warfare Center (JWC), il NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence (CCDCOE) e le università di Genova e di Roma Tor Vergata, assieme a Fabaris. Un team di istruttori ha tenuto il corso, fornendo approfondimenti sulle ultime tendenze e applicazioni in atto nel campo della modellazione & simulazione nei contesti militari. Attraverso un approccio pratico gli studenti hanno conseguentemente potuto acquisire familiarità con gli strumenti e le metodologie M&S. Particolare enfasi è stata posta sul CAW, considerato un elemento di interesse crescente nella strategia militare moderna nonché nei processi decisionali. Si è trattato di un approccio che costituirà un solido punto di partenza l momento del prossimo corso CAW, che potrebbe venire condotto per la prima volta alla fine del 2024 o al più tardi all’inizio del 2025.
UN’OPPORTUNITÀ DI NETWORKING
Oltre alla dimensione accademica, il corso ha rappresentato una opportunità di networking, ponendo i partecipanti nelle condizioni di stabilire connessioni durature all’interno della comunità M&S, relazioni che si rivelano essenziali ai fini della promozopne della collaborazione nelle operazioni di Difesa e Sicurezza. L’M&S COE Deputy Director ha inteso sottolineare la cruciale importanza del corso, evidenziandone la funzione di fondamentale punto di partenza per coloro che desiderano intraprendere un percorso nel settore della modellazione e simulazione. Egli ha altresì invitato gli interessati a seguire il sito web del NATO M&S COE allo scopo di rimanere aggiornati sulle iniziative e le attività per le quali è previsto lo svolgimento nel prossimo futuro.
NATO CA2X2 FORUM 2024
Il successo ottenuto dalla sedicesima edizione del corso basico di M&S getta solide basi per le future sessioni, confermando l’impegno del NATO M&S COE nell’offerta di programmi formativi di eccellenza. Al riguardo va rilevato che dal 24 al 26 settembre 2024 presso l’Ergife Palace Hotel Rome avrà luogo la prossima edizione del NATO CA2X2 Forum. Il NATO M&S COE è stato concepito allo scopo di promuovere M&S a supporto dei requisiti operativi, della formazione e dell’interoperabilità. Il Centro, ubicato presso la caserma Adriano De Cicco alla Città militare della Cecchignola a Roma, sede del VI Reparto dello Stato Maggiore della Difesa, funge da catalizzatore per la trasformazione attraverso il coinvolgimento della NATO, Stati, università, industria, entità operative e di formazione, migliorando il collegamento in rete dei sistemi M&S della NATO e di proprietà dei Paesi membri e partner, la cooperazione tra Stati e organizzazioni attraverso la condivisione di informazioni M&S e sviluppi, fungendo da fonte internazionale di competenze per la trasformazione nel relativo dominio.
CENTRI DI ECCELLENZA NATO
I centri d’eccellenza NATO sono istituzioni nazionali o multinazionali accreditate dalla NATO, esse addestrano ed educano leader e specialisti di Stati membri o partner della NATO, assistono nello sviluppo della dottrina, identificano lezioni apprese (lessons learned) migliorano interoperabilità e capacità, verificano e validano concetti attraverso la sperimentazione. I centri d’eccellenza supportano dunque la trasformazione della NATO evitando la duplicazione di assetti, risorse e capacità già esistenti all’interno della struttura di comando. Sebbene non siano parte della struttura di comando della NATO, si articolano in una più vasta architettura di supporto degli arrangiamenti dell’Alleanza.

16th NATO M&S Basic Course: International Engagement at the 16th NATO M&S Basic Course; Rome, February 2024 – The NATO Modelling & Simulation Centre of Excellence (NATO M&S COE) proudly hosted the 16th edition of the NATO M&S Basic Course, marking it as one of the most popular sessions to date with 24 international students in attendance. The course, renowned for its comprehensive curriculum, took a deeper dive into computer assisted wargaming, fostering a high level of interaction between lecturers and students.
COLLABORATIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
The diverse group of students, hailing from various NATO member and partner countries, engaged in a dynamic learning environment. The course’s structure promoted active discussions and the exchange of ideas, enhancing the educational experience. The course was enriched by the participation of several esteemed institutions, including the Italian CESIVA, the NATO JWC, the NATO CCDCOE, and the universities of Genova and Tor Vergata, as well as Fabaris company.
EXPERT-LED INSIGHTS
A team of expert instructors led the course, providing insights into the latest trends and applications of Modelling & Simulation in the military context. Their hands-on approach allowed students to experience the practical aspects of M&S tools and methods.
FOCUS ON COMPUTER ASSISTED WARGAMING
This session prioritized computer-assisted wargaming, a cornerstone of contemporary military strategy and decision-making. Students gained some insights into the nuances of simulation-based wargames, equipping themselves with indispensable skills for their future roles. This initial focus serves as a precursor to the forthcoming Computer Assisted Wargaming course, planned for late 2024 or early 2025, laying a robust foundation for participants to excel in this vital aspect of military simulation and strategy.
A PLATFORM FOR NETWORKING
Beyond the classroom, the course served as a platform for networking, enabling participants to build lasting connections within the M&S community. These relationships are essential for the collaborative nature of defence and security operations.

The Deputy Director of the NATO M&S COE underscored the importance of the course, stating, “This course allows about 50 students per year to start their journey in Modelling & Simulation.
