L’ultimo “Un caffè con…” ripercorre un convegno di trent’anni fa: Identità, confine. Geografie, modelli, rappresentazioni. Si tratta del volume edito da Mimesis, costituito dagli atti inediti del convegno “Identità e confine” organizzato nel 1991 da Alpe Adria Cinema e vi ritroviamo oltre quaranta voci autorevoli tra storici del cinema, scrittori e filosofi riflettono sul tema dell’identità e confine. A presentarlo, sempre alle ore 11:00, il curatore Leonardo Quaresima con Nicoletta Romeo e Fabrizio Grosoli.
Dalle 14:00 il focus sul cinema polacco Wild Roses: Registe In Europa propone ben tre film.
Si comincia con SOMETHING BETTER TO COME (Qualcosa di meglio verrà) di Hanna Polak, DK – PL, 2014, col., 110’ v.o. russa/ sott. it.
Il suo nome è Jula. La sua casa è la discarica più grande d’Europa, nella periferia di Mosca. Questa è la storia della sua vita. Something Better to Come è stato presentato all’IDFA 2014 di Amsterdam dove ha vinto il Premio Speciale della Giuria e ha vinto il premio Miglior Documentario al 26° Trieste Film Festival.
Si prosegue alle 16:00 con DZIKIE RÓŻE (Rose selvatiche) di Anna Jadowska, PL, 2017, col., 89’ v.o. polacca / sott. it.
Ewa, 27 anni, ha un segreto da mantenere disperatamente. Mentre suo marito lavora all’estero, lei partorisce un figlio illegittimo e lo dà segretamente in adozione. Uno sguardo senza moralismi sul dilemma della maternità.
Alle 17:45 è quindi il momento di WIEŻA. JASNY DZIEŃ (La torre. Un giorno luminoso) di Jagoda Szelc, PL, 2017, col., 106’ v.o. polacca / sott. it. film in anteprima italiana che ci cala in una famiglia alle prese coi preparativi per un ricevimento e per una cerimonia religiosa. In occasione della Prima Comunione della figlia, Mula riceve la visita di sua sorella Kaja che manca da tempo. Non è un incontro felice, Kaja è temuta da tutti in famiglia.
Alle 19:45 si tiene la SERATA DI CHIUSURA con l’annuncio dei vincitori della XXXII edizione del Trieste Film Festival.
Alle 21:00 viene proposto quale evento speciale il film TO VLEMMA TOU ODISSEA (Lo sguardo di Ulisse) di Theo Angelopoulos, GR – F – I – D – GB – YU – RO – AL – BIH, 1995, col. & b-n / 176′ v.o. inglese – greca – albanese – serbo-croata – rumena – macedone – tedesca / ì sott. it.
Un regista greco-americano, noto semplicemente come A., torna nella sua città natale nel nord della Grecia per la proiezione del suo ultimo controverso film. Ma la vera ragione per cui è tornato è quella di rintracciare tre bobine di pellicola, scomparse da tempo dei fratelli Manakis, mitici pionieri del cinema che viaggiarono attraverso i Balcani ignorando conflitti nazionali ed etnici, filmando persone comuni, in particolare artigiani.
Alle 23:30 si chiude con il TSFF PARTY, la festa di commiato del Trieste Film Festival. La festa è su registrazione sulla piattaforma Zoom e l’evento viene pubblicato sulle pagine social del Festival. Le “master of ceremonies” saranno le dj Zwei Knödel, al secolo Laura Bussani e Maddalena Della Libera.
CINEMA, XXIII Trieste Film Festival. Saturday 30th January: Book presentation “Identity, borders”; Polish focus: “Wild roses”; Closing and awards ceremony; The special event: “To vlemma tou odissea”, by Theo Angelopoulos; TSFF Closing party – The final “A coffee with…” revisits a conference 30 years ago. “Identity, border. Geographies, models, representations” is the book, edited by Mimesis, consisting of unpublished records of the conference “Identity and borders” organised in 1991 by Alpe Adria Cinema. Over forty authoritative voices, including film historians, writers and philosophers, reflect on the theme of identity and borders. The conference will be presented at 11:00 by curator Leonardo Quaresima with Nicoletta Romeo and Fabrizio Grosoli.
From 14:00 the focus on Polish cinema Wild Roses: Women Filmmakers in Europe will feature 3 films. We begin with SOMETHING BETTER TO COME by Hanna Polak, DK – PL, 2014, col., 110’, Russian o.v., eng. subt.
Her name is Yula. Her home is the largest garbage dump in Europe on the outskirts of Moscow. This is the story of her life. Something Better to Come premiered in 2014 at IDFA in Amsterdam, where it received the Special Jury Award. It also won Best Documentary at the 26th Trieste Film Festival.

At 17:45 it’s the turn of the Italian premiere of WIEŻA. JASNY DZIEŃ (Tower. A Bright Day) by Jagoda Szelc, PL, 2017, col., 106’, Polish o.v., eng. subt. In the midst of Mula’s family’s preparations for her daughter’s First Communion, Mula’s long lost sister, Kaja, pays them a visit. The reunion is not a happy one, as Kaja is feared by the whole family.
The CLOSING NIGHT begins at 19:45 with the announcement of the competition winners of the 32nd edition of Trieste Film Festival.
At 21:00 our Special Event section brings us the film TO VLEMMA TOU ODISSEA (Ulysses’ Gaze) by Theo Angelopoulos, GR – F – I – D – GB – YU – RO – AL – BIH, 1995, col. & b-w, 176′, English – Greek – Albanian – Serbo-Croatian – Romanian – Macedonian – German o.v., eng. subt.
A Greek-American filmmaker, known simply as A., returns to his hometown in northern Greece for a screening of his latest controversial film. His real reason for coming back, however, is to track down three long-missing reels of the film by the Manaki brothers, legendary pioneers of cinema who travelled through the Balkans ignoring national and ethnic strife, recording ordinary people, especially craftsmen, on film.
At 23:00 we finish with the TSFF PARTY, the farewell event of the Trieste Film Festival. The event is upon registration on the Zoom platform and is published on the Festival’s social pages. The “master of ceremonies” will be the DJs Zwei Knödel, aka Laura Bussani and Maddalena Della Libera.
