Vard, società del gruppo Fincantieri fra le principali al mondo per la progettazione e costruzione di navi speciali, ha firmato un nuovo contratto per il design e la realizzazione di un Service Operation Vessel (SOV) per Ta San Shang Marine Co. Ltd., una joint venture tra Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Ltd. (MOL) e Ta Tong Marine Co. Ltd. (TTM).
L’unità, la prima del suo genere in Asia, sarà costruita per essere dedicata specificamente all’attività di manutenzione dei campi eolici marini di Greater Changhua, gestiti dalla compagnia elettrica danese Ørsted, leader mondiale nel settore eolico offshore e delle energie rinnovabili.
L’ordine, che segue quello già annunciato il 1 aprile 2020 per una innovativa unità per il settore dell’itticoltura, rientra nella più ampia strategia di diversificazione implementata da Vard e ne segna l’ingresso nel promettente settore delle energie rinnovabili, al fianco di MOL e TTM, due delle maggiori compagnie di shipping al mondo.
Il settore delle energie rinnovabili offshore è in una fase di transizione da industria europea a mercato globale.
Avendo già sviluppato numerosi concept di questo tipo di unità, Vard potrà sfruttare un trend in cui le iniziative relative al comparto sono in crescita, con importanti attività che si apprestano ad essere avviate sia in Asia sia in Nord America, oltre a un livello di investimenti ancora elevato in Europa.
Lo scopo primario dell’unità sarà quello di trasferire personale tecnico, fungendo anche da base mobile, oltre alla componentistica di ricambio, all’interno del parco eolico.
Il progetto è frutto del design “Vard 4 19”, sviluppato da Vard Design in stretta collaborazione con il cliente e i partner, e fortemente orientato all’ottimizzazione della sicurezza, del comfort e dell’operabilità.
La propulsione sarà ibrida, con una soluzione diesel-elettrica che garantirà la riduzione del consumo di carburante, della manutenzione e delle emissioni, nonché una migliore reattività, regolarità e sicurezza.
La nave avrà una lunghezza di 84,4 metri, una larghezza di 19,5, e potrà ospitare 87 persone in cabine singole.
Sarà costruita interamente nel cantiere Vard Vung Tau in Vietnam, con consegna prevista nella prima metà del 2022.

TTM (Ta Tong Marine), compagnia di navigazione di proprietà della famiglia Lin, intrattiene rapporti commerciali con partner di primo livello. La famiglia ha attività commerciali non solo nella navigazione, ma anche nella logistica, nei terminal container, nel settore immobiliare, ecc. Le attività eoliche offshore rappresentano un nuovo investimento. Oltre al progetto SOV, anche l’attività di CTV è già operativa.
MOL (Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd.) è una società di trasporti giapponese con sede a Tokyo, in Giappone. È una delle più grandi compagnie di navigazione del mondo. La flotta MOL comprende navi da carico secco (bulk carriers), navi per il trasporto di gas naturale liquefatto, navi da trasporto Ro-Ro, navi cisterna, portacontainer e terminal container.
Vard enters the renewable energy sector. The contract, anticipated on April, 1st and signed by VARD today, reaffirms the diversification strategy envisaged by Fincantieri for its Norwegian subsidiary. Trieste, April 17, 2020 – Vard, Fincantieri’s subsidiary and one of the major global designers and shipbuilders of specialized vessels, signed a new contract for the design and construction of one Service Operation Vessel (SOV) for Ta San Shang Marine Co., Ltd., a joint venture between Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Ltd. (MOL) and Ta Tong Marine Co., Ltd. (TTM).
The vessel – the first one to be built for the Asian market – is specifically conceived to perform maintenance operations to be carried out in the Greater Changhua Wind Farms by Ørsted, a Danish Group, world leader in offshore wind and renewable energy.
After the contract for a new fish farming unit, announced on April, 1st, today’s order is another step of Vard diversification strategy as it marks the entrance of the company into the promising sector of renewable energy, alongside top-level operators like MOL and TTM, two of the major shipping companies worldwide.
The offshore renewables sector is undergoing a geographical expansion phase, becoming a worldwide market after being a mostly European-based industry.
Vard has already developed several concepts of these units and will be able to take advantage of the trend of growing initiatives in the renewable energy space, with increasing activity both in Asia and North America as well as the continuing high investments in Europe.
The main purpose of the vessel is to transfer personnel and spare parts within the wind farm, whilst also working as a moving base unit.
The project is based on “Vard 4 19” design, developed by Vard Design in close cooperation with the customer and partners. It is highly focused on optimizing the hull design, safety, comfort, and operability.
Propulsion will be hybrid with a diesel-electric solution, providing reductions in fuel consumption, maintenance and emissions as well as improved responsiveness, regularity and safety.
The 84.4 meters vessel has a beam of 19.5 meters and will accommodate 87 persons in single cabins. The new unit will be built at Vard’s shipyard Vard Vung Tau in Vietnam, scheduled for delivery in first half of 2022.
